Gods and Festivals

Festivals for the worship of the gods were a very significant part of life in Ancient Greece. In Athens, about half the days of the year were taken up with festivals and there was more than one festival for most gods. They usually involved certain activities and rituals, including a procession, dancing and the singing of hymns, and most importantly, sacrifices. But festivals were not just about rituals, they often also involved athletic, musical and dramatic competitions, which were seen as another way of worshipping the gods.
