Polykleitos
5th century BC

Roman copy of a bronze statue by Polykleitos
This marble statue of an athlete is a Roman copy of a bronze statue by Polykleitos.
Unfortunately, there are no surviving sculptures to show us what this person looked like.

Polykleitos was a sculptor from Argos. He wrote a book called the Canon. In this, he described the ratios of the human body.
