Pythagoras made very important discoveries in maths and music. He gave his name to a formula that is used to calculate the length of sides of triangles. He also used maths and numbers to explain musical notes.
He set up a religious society in southern Italy. He taught his followers to lead good and pure lives. He believed this would help them to live forever.
This coin is thought to show Pythagoras
