Religion - Aristaios

This plaque is thought to have come from an important sanctuary at Sparta where the goddess Artemis Orthia was worshipped. It shows a minor god, Aristaios, who was connected with agriculture, looking after sheep and hunting. As Artemis was the goddess of hunting, worshippers perhaps saw a connection between these two gods.
