Farmer's Diary

To learn about the Greek farming year.

Writing material, images of ancient Greek farming (printed from the website).

Class set-up:
Whole class discussion and individual work.

Agriculture, harvest, ploughing, sowing.

Ask the children to read the Time Story and play the Time Challenge.

What are the main crops and produce from the Greek farm? What times of the year are the busiest for the ancient Greek farmer? Why is it important for the farmer to show his love and respect for the gods? Which gods or goddesses are most important, or can give the most help, to farmers.

Now ask the children to write a diary. They should make an entry for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
